Africa Initiative for the Needy Uganda (AINU) is an organization of Ugandans engaged in development projects. It is a medium sized NGO working to help people with disabilities, aged, youth, orphans, vulnerable children, women and teenagers, to reduce poverty and improve the livelihoods of poor communities. AINU operates in Kampala District but is also involved in Kayunga, Kalangala, Mukono, Wakiso and Masaka Districts. Our head office is located in Kampala.

Through a number of activities so far undertaken, AINU has established itself as a “leading NGO and key actor” within the civil society in Uganda, contributing to sustainable livelihoods of the resource poor, good governance in development resources management, sustainable development and poverty reduction among the poor communities and the entire country Uganda. The profile of the organization as an important partner and actor in fighting rural poverty among the needy groups and communities has certainly been established.
AINU organizes various programs for and with local communities with objectives of improving livelihood and security of local people. Empowering the enhancing conservation efforts. It works on the different part of the rural areas, mainly in environmental, Health, Agricultural, Educational and Economical sector. One of the key focus areas of the forum is to create public awareness on the environmental issues. This is done through the conduction of seminars and workshop, through articles by our own press on the result of the programs.
Besides this, the organisation has been launching different programs, like as safe and pure drinking water, also Nature Conservation as well as protection of Bio-diversity in different places of Uganda. The organisation as the first to raise the voice regarding pollution induced by industries in Uganda.
The organisation is actively involved against the use of plastic, we lead to the Uganda Government to use less than 30 microns. Our forum urges people to use cotton mask as protection form air and dust pollution. Likewise further programs on health, sanitation and other environment-related fields publish magazines, pamphlets and parch to aware people on environment.
AINU is dedicated to mobilizing young women and men to actively take part in the development process of the country. AINU has Programmes in each of the FIVE regions of Uganda. AINU also collaborates with university students and offers internships to undergraduates.
AINU works to support young girls, children, women and refugees on low incomes. AINU is committed to strive for young people to educate, empower, and provide skills and trainings, and physical education. This will help young people get motivated, educated and get the skills which they can contribute to the development of their communities and country. AINU is also involved in giving education, awareness campaigns, and mobilizing the community to address various problems including HIV/AID, FGC, gender violence, illiteracy and numeracy. Participatory methods such as drama and media are used to address the issues. One of the major campaigns the organization is involved with is ending the harmful practice of FGC in Uganda. Through the community dramas and awareness raising, AINU has seen some progress in the fight to end FGC.
AINU is an active member to both national and local relations and has managed to make friends from USA, UK, Australia, and NewZealand. This has enabled AINU to network, share information and experience as well as link national, regional and international issues in practice and to shape policies at all levels. AINU has, therefore, emerged as a credible voice for the resource poor needy groups and communities in Uganda.
