Katie's Personal Message:
Hi Everyone,

Thanks for visiting my online fundraising page. On Nov 7th I will be taking on the mighty Machu Picchu. A four day group trek will take me up to the beautiful, ancient Inca wonder Machu Picchu.

COPARS is about providing support and friendship to families who have a child with
cancer. Even in the midst of such a difficult illness it is important for children to have fun.
COPARS organise fun events throughout the year for all the family.
I will be trekking the Inca trail in support of COPARS, the charity who supported my niece, Lily, through her time with cancer. Lily was diagnosed with Kidney cancer in May 2010 aged just 3 years old, and had to under go a long period of treatment. Lily is now a healthy and happy little girl, with beautiful curly hair and a smile to match. Please give what you can to support this worthy cause and help other children similar to Lily, now and in the future.

More information about the trek:
I will be arriving in Cusco, the nearest town to Machu Piccu, and adjusting to the altitude on 3rd November and begin the trek early in the morning of 7th November.
Day 1: My adventure will begin at Piscacucho, located 9,000 feet above sea level. We will be trekking the day at an altitude of 9,000 to 10,000 feet. A reasonably flat trek on the first day to ease me into it! We will be visiting the ruins of Q’anabamba and Willkarakay, Patallacta on the first day and have been promised unforgettable astronomical views whilst camping at Huayllabamba.
Day 2:An early strart at 6 am and today will be the most difficult day of the trek with mostly uphill hiking. In the morning we will stop at a resting point called Yuncachimpa – Ayabacha, at 10,820 feet above sea level. The hardest part of the trek will take me to the “Dead Woman Pass” or “Abra Warmiwañusca” at 13,776 feet above sea level (not sure about the name!) We will then be descending original inca trail steps to the campsite for the second night.
Day 3: Will be woken again at 6 am and trek to the ancient ruins of Runkuraqay. Then we will trek to the second pass called "Abra Runkuraqay,” at 12,400 feet above sea level and the next stop, the ruins of Sayacmarca at 11,472 feet above sea level. After lunch, a stony road will us to the next campsite, called Wiñaywayna, at 8,692 feet above sea level. On the way there will be amazing views of the green mountains, rivers, and snowy peaks, as well as the ruins of the Phuyupatamarca. We may even be able to take a shower at this campsite!
Day 4: A super early start at 4:30 am and a very early morning trek to Gate of the Sun, also called Intipunku, at 8,920 feet above sea level. If it is not cloudy, (and I really, really hope it's not) there will be able to get an amazing view of Machu Picchu, which is located at 7,875 feet above sea level. At 9 am we will start our tour of the 'City of the Lost Inca's' and a final trek up the mountain of Huayna Picchu Mountain. The end of the 4th day and I will be happily sitting on a train going back down to Cusco where it all began.
