We all need a safe haven....

James served in the Marines and saw action in both the Falklands and Gulf. On leaving the services he found it very difficult to cope and lost his job, family and home. He became addicted to alcohol and hit rock bottom.

Mon Abri House (meaning safe haven) offered James a safe home and the support he needed to deal with his issues. Six months later he moved into his own accommodation and is doing well.

The most common issues within the ex-Service community are financial difficulties, unemployment, lack of skills and depression.

At Alabaré Christian Care & Support our aim is to end homelessness for those we support. We would like to help even more members of the ex-Service community by opening a further five homes like Mon Abri.

We have recognised that there is a specific need for our support within the ex-Service community. So, at the beginning of 2009 we opened Mon Abri House (meaning my safe haven), our first project for former members of the Armed Forces.

Funded by The Royal British Legion, Mon Abri provides accommodation and support to men and women who are experiencing difficulty after leaving military service. Staff offer help with a range of complex issues including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, drug and alcohol addiction, education, employment and life skills.

In addition to Mon Abri House, Alabaré also offers crisis services and training opportunities for ex-Service personnel.
