Mark's Personal Message:
|
Thank you for visiting Mark's online fundraising page for the big bike ride from Cirencester to Hanoi.
I'm leaving early April, cycling 3000 miles to Moscow via St Petersburg, then cheating by train to Beijing to resume pedalling down through China to Hanoi.
Why? Especially at 62 years old? A dream of decades, in part. A chance to cycle the world before stocks of knee strength and a willing global climate run out. And, to raise money for three charities very close to my heart:
For the Cotswold chamber choir in which I sing, Cantores; For the global Humanitarian Assistance Programme (HAP) of the psychotherapy in which I specialise, namely EMDR. (See my website for more details if the initials mean nothing to you - www.brayne.com). And, for the Rory Peck Trust, which supports freelance journalists worldwide who report from zones of crisis and war.
Making a donation through CharityGiving is simple.
charitygiving.co.uk is operated by The Dove Trust, a charity with almost 30 years' experience of helping individuals, charities and good causes globally, so your giving is safe and secure.
CharityGiving will reclaim gift aid tax on your donation (if you are a UK taxpayer), meaning any donation is worth around 25% more. They also charge less than most other fundraising websites, so more money goes to the good causes.
How much? At 6000 miles or so in all, a penny a mile adds up to £60 - doable? You can wait till I'm done, or do it while I wait, to leave on Easter Day, April 7 2012.
Either way, thanks for visiting this page, and hopefully opening your wallet.
Mark
