Last Friday over dinner, after congratulating ourselves on our first few days of giving up chocolate; we dug into white chocolate cheesecake and our conversation turned into banter about alternative deeds that we could actually do for charity and laughed about having to sleep in a tent ... after a glass of wine this tent turned into a box and a week later ... this page.
On a more sober note we thought ... It’s always easy to throw 20p into a bashed and abused McDonald’s coffee polystyrene cup of the once ‘normal’ fingertips poking out from frayed gloves. To finally make a donation to that 1000th pair of starving eyes of the African child who looked that extra bit cute. It’s all in the spirit of giving and just a bonus that it happens to be with the littlest inconvenience to ourselves.
On Friday 26 March at 7pm until 9am Saturday morning (come rain or snow) we will actually sleep in a box in a field for a charity that in the evening runs solely on donations and contributes in an immeasurable way to the destitute of our city.
To know that what we are doing is legitimate, we will posts pictures and videos every hour onto Facebook and upload a picture of handing over a cheque of the money we raise to the charity and a note of how they are going to use these donations.
WHAT IS THE CHARITY?
The Wayside Centre, a registered charity in Scotland (SC021137), is located in town and run by mostly volunteers. They provide a sort of home and hope to the homeless people of Glasgow. Running daytime and evening courses as well as providing food. The impact that this small Centre has is incredible. The Centre is open in the evenings 7 nights per week from 7.30pm – 10pm. All evening activities operate ENTIRELY from donations so the money raised has the potential to make a great difference.
